CHILLING TALES had some of the more gruesome pre-Code horror tales, this one by former Wally Wood partner (and future sci-fi novelist) Harry Harrison being one. Oddly enough, the publisher was Youthful whose books were apparently funded and distributed by...DC Comics grand poobah Harry Donenfeld.

Reminds me of Dick Briefer's art in some places.
It reminds me of Robert Bloch's "The Skull of the Marquis de Sade" from Weird Tales Vol 39 #1 (September 1945).
