Torchy-Gill Fox-1949

TORCHY was a popular early strip of the so-called "Good Girl Art" genre. Generally, folks recall it as a pioneering girlie strip by Bill Ward who went on to re-create it in increasingly more explicit formats over and over in decades to come. TORCHY, the strip, though was drawn just about as often (if not more so) by Gill Fox, himself a bit of a comics historian and a Good Girl Artist of some renown. Fox became a political cartoonist many years on and some of his final work was for the Big Boy Comic books in the 1990's. He passed in 2004.

I randomly met Bill Ward's granddaughter at a wedding a few years ago. Small world!
